Skyrocket Juniper Thefts on Wyoming Median

Posted: March 31, 2011

9 Skyrocket Junipers have gone missing from the medians on Wyoming between Academy and San Antonio. Skyrocket Junipers are a small, tidy columnar evergreens that we think of more as a vertical shrub than a full blown tree. The median beautification project started on October 7, 2010. By that date, 6 of the plants had been stolen. So far this early spring, three more were stolen for a total of 9. The latest theft occurred over this past weekend and it was apparent that whoever is stealing these plants tried to take many more.

Precautions have been taken by anchoring the plants with a length of rebar below the gravel. The three taken this spring were also anchored, but apparently not well enough.

In order to deter these thefts from happening again please keep an eye out for the thief. Call 242-COPS if you have any information regarding the thefts.
Each Juniper Skyrocket costs about $200 each to plant. When that amount of money is lost in thefts it raises the level of criminal charges to a felony.

The contractor is Mountain West Golfscapes, but when they are out on the median, there will be a truck with their name close by.
