Brief Minutes of the 8/20/08 District 4
                                          Coalition of Neighborhood Association

Colleen Frenz presented an update of progress/planning for the Domingo Baca Park. Focus was on the plans for the Multi-generational Center. Planning and design are based on the input from community meetings and phone surveys to determine desired priority. The plans are anticipated to go before the EPC in October. The project will be undertaken in 2 phases. Upper and lower level parking is planned off Wyoming and Carmel. Main structure will have a roof running track and also in the Gym. Extensive planting will aid in cleaning the air. walkways are concrete but drain into permeable surfaces for water harvesting. Intent is to make a "Gold standard" facility. Geothermal heating and cooling with evaporative coils are planned. Playground will be on the Westside. Fitness center is in phase 1, Yoga is in phase 2. Climbing wall, Social Hall, phase 1. Meeting rooms and Social hall can accommodate 50-100 and several hundred respectively. Movable glass walls provide for indoor/outdoor use for barbeque, social gatherings etc. Translucent walls in the gym allow for in/out visibility.
Main building faces North. Max height is 40 ft. Phase 1 will cost $7.7 million, total build out will be $20 million, scheduled for Summer 2009-Fall 2010.

Brad Winter reported that Gordon Rowe had resigned from the APS School Board, Linda DuMoulin has been approved for the Arts Board from D4, and Paul Grunwald has been nominated for the Ethics Board. Our state Legislators are favorable to combining budget requests in support of Domingo Baca Park at the next Legislative Session. The Council has approved extension of the 1/4 cent transportation tax with the major portion of the money dedicated to road work rather than streetcars.

The Coalition voted to support the Mayors proposal to form a Task Force to review the Neighborhood/Homeowner Ordinance with the suggestion that Coalition Presidents be appointed to serve.

Mr J Holbert briefly described a document which identifies 100 organizations that help retuning soldiers and their families. The document (binder) is being made available by Congresswoman Heather Wilson and can be requested from her office at 505-346-6781.

Heritage East reported that their neighborhood has recently experienced a large number of break-ins/thefts.

Adjourned at 9 PM.

Respectfully submitted
Joe Yardumian, NENA Rep to D4
