[NENA] Disturbing Incident in the Neighborhood

Yesterday about 3:30pm, my wife was dropping off recycle at the bins behind
Smiths and Big5 at Wyoming and Paseo.  She witnessed about 40 kids of middle
school and high school age, boys and girls, of all races of what at first
looked to be about to have a gang fight.  After a few moments of milling
around, it then became clear that some of the older kids were goading two
younger boys to fight for sport ala the movie "Fight Club".  My wife called
the police and the kids began to disperse, one of the younger boys was very
foul and verbally abusive to my wife.   There were employees from Big 5 and
the Montessori school watching this as well.  According to the manager of
Smiths, this is not the first time something like this has happened around
that parking lot after school.   We plan to contact the principals at Desert
Ridge and La Cueva and alert them to this activity. 

 

This behavior must not be tolerated.  Kids will fight but organized
adolescent  gladiator matches are savage and dangerous.  if you have any
knowledge of these activities, please contact the police and school
authorities before a child gets killed or maimed in this brutal manner.
