                                                                                                      1/23/09

BRIEF MINUTES OF THE Jan. 21st D4 NEIGHBORHOOD COALITION OF
                                                     NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS MEETING

Secretary Bambi Folk reported that the "Cookies for Cops" over the holidays was very successful. Five batches of fudge, 92 doz. cookies were provided for NE Area Command.

The D4 Annual Election of Officers was held, and all D4 offices were filled unanimously.

Because the City Council meeting had to be moved from Mon. to Wed., Councilman Brad Winter was unable to attend the D4 meeting. Diana was absent also as she was in sessions at Santa Fe.

ONC head, Pat Montoya reported that there are 246 recognized NAs, 6 are new, and 3-4 more are pending. No information is available at this time on the Mayor's proposed Task Force regarding review of the current NA/HOA ordinance.

The concern raised last meeting regarding pockets of hunger in areas of the city and steps taken to help mitigate the problem was discussed. Coordinated efforts with Roadrunner Food Bank, Albuquerque Meadows, and D4 has resulted in an organized, successful smooth operation at Alb. Meadows. D4 established a committee to continue this worthwhile effort throughout the year, coordinating with Senior Affairs and Family Community Services in the city to identify pockets of need and work with the city to help alleviate the problem.

It was noted that an APS Board Election will be held in less than 2 weeks and D4 members were encouraged to
to urge their NA membership to access the APS Website and review the district 7 candidate's responses to pertinent questions, noting that schools, our children, their education, and success in life are impacted by Board policy decisions.

The NA roundtable session noted the following items: home break-ins have continued to occur in some neighborhoods as well as vehicle and car vandalism and break-ins (residents are urged to NOT LEAVE THEIR GARAGE DOORS OPEN), Hoffman town Church is planning to develop a landscaped park in the area East of the church, re-submission of the proposed "elder home" has been put on hold, and the roadway along Eubank to San Antonio will be expanded to 4 lanes plus a median.
